November 11, 1936 - October 08, 2011

Hugh C.

Savannah- Hugh C. "Sandy" Shaw died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at his home under the care of Hospice.
He was born in Summit, New Jersey November 11, 1936. He spent 4 years in the Navy "Special Services" Division. For fifteen years he was with Local #489 Iron Workers Union. He and his wife, Kerry, moved to Hawaii where he became a Group Home Program Manager. He provided guidance, care and served as a father figure for over thirty five underprivileged young men. Later, Sandy was property manager for a Condominium Consortium as well the Koko Isle Shopping Center in the Hawaii Kai area.
He volunteered as a probation counselor in Union City, NJ. He coached Youth Football League in Westfield, NJ for 5 years. In Hawaii, he volunteered with the Department of Social Services . Upon arriving in Savannah, he volunteered his time as an assistant football and weightlifting coach at Benedictine Military Academy 1992-1996 . Later, he became an assistant coach at the Windsor Forest football program for 3 years. He derived great satisfaction mentoring young men to the world of football, weightlifting, as well to the essentials of manhood.
Sandy was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed. We are better people for having had Sandy in our lives. "Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand".
Sandy left behind his loving wife of 33 years and best friend, Kerry Ann Shaw; the best daughter in the world and center of his universe: Kami Marie Shaw Hitchings Paul of Dallas, TX; his faithful companion who shared every meal with his Dad, Cooper; brother, Dennis Shaw; sister in law, Beverly Shaw of Glastonbury CT; their 3 children and 3 grandchildren; mother-in-law: Ruth O'Brien of Savannah, GA, and brother in law, Joseph O'Brien of West Haven, CT.

GUEST BOOK

As I read through the writings on this guest book I was compelled to write one myself. I wish I could feel sadness over the loss of Sandy Shaw but instead I feel anger. Anger because I am the oldest of his 5 children. Yes 5 children, 3 boys with his first wife Cameron, Brian and Kenny Shaw. The fourth son Casey Shaw was with his second wife. The anger comes because all the posts pat him on the back for being such a role model. There are four good men that never had that role model in their lives. Although we all turned out OK it would have been nice to have a father in our lives. I for one would go to the end of the earth to maintain a relationship with my children. Rest in Peace dad.
